Member of National Parliament (MP) Agostinho Lay has criticised the attitude of the chief of Fatukero village in Ermera district who has handed Millenium Development Goal’s (MDG’s) houses – meant to house vulnerable people – over to public employees.
MP Lay said the company responsible for construction had not yet handed the MDG houses over to the government but the village head had taken the decision to hand the houses to the public employees to use.
MP Lay said the MDG houses in Fatukero village were not just for vulnerable people but were for entire villages in Ermera district.
The MP said he was concerned that even though the construction of MDG houses was complete, clean water and electricity were not yet connected.
“There are more than 200 MDG houses in Fatukero village for vulnerable people but many of them who haven’t got names,” MP Lay said.
Actual Ermera Community MP Antonio dos Santos called for an investigationinto the Fatukero village chief because the company had not handed the houses to the government.
“There should be an investigation into the head of the village, because we have confirmed the BTK Company which holds the contract for the work said it hadn’t handed the houses to the government,” he said.
He said the Railako sub-district administrator was unaware of the purpose of the houses at the moment but the village chief had handed the homes to the employees.
Acting Secretary of State for Parliamentary Issues Nelio Isaac Sarmento recognized that until now the government had not handed the MDG houses over to the village local authority.
He said MDG house is not for Fatukero people only but also for vulnerable people ofin the largerErmera district.
