The Secretary of State for Electricity plans to build a power plant in Oe-Cusse, with the objective of attracting private sector investors to the district.

The Secretary of State for Electricity plans to establish an electricity centre in Oe-cusse district, to try to attract investors to the district.

The General Director for Electricity Virgilio Guteres said this was already part of the 2014 plan.

“It’s now part of the master plan, now we have to secure electricity for the master plan development in Oe-Cusse,” he said in Kaikoli, Dili.

Meanwhile the President of Commission E (for infrastructure, transport and communication), MP Pedro da Costa said Oe-Cusse district should have its own power plant to facilitate the existing master plan.

“We went to inaugurate the Mahata port, named Iwao Kita-Hara, and we went to see the place to install a power plant near Sakato and there’s about four hectares of land,” said MP da Costa.

According the government’s plan, a generator will be temporarily moved from Comoro to Oe-Cusse to guarantee the supply of electricity for the community.

The MP affirmed the government’s plan was to build a power plant in Oe-Cusse with a capacity of 20 megawatts, then would use 10 megawatts and save 10 megawatts for reserve.

“Currently there’s a blackout at the old centre and it’s difficult for the people so the government has come and informed Commission E in National Parliament that they will mobilize some generators from the Comoro power plant to guarantee 24 hour electricity distribution to the district,” MP da Costa said.

On the other hand, Fretilin MP Manuel Castro said the government should build the power plant there because Oe-Cusse has special autonomy for the master plan.

‘I think next year they should have started, as there will be an event in 2015 to start it,” Castro suggested.

According to Commission E’s monitoring in Oe-Cusse district, the areas of Pasabe and Nitibe do not have access to electricity.

“We see their lives are very isolated, so they need to think about electricity for them,” the MP said.
