The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communication (MOPTC) Gastão de Sousa said the government has allocated over $10 million for the third stage of the construction to the Comoro Bridge in Dili in 2016.

He added this project is considered a mega project by the Japanese and Timor-Leste governments.
“Everything will be done in Japan. We just need to choose the type of bridge we want and then tender the project this year,” said Minister Sousa in Dili.
He added the government is currently preparing the compensation packages for the communities that will be affected by the new bridge and payments will be done shortly.
“Compensation will given by the Timorese government and we have allocated $500.000,” said Minister Sousa.
Meanwhile, Member of the National Parliament MP Antonio Serpa said the new bridge is a good initiative but the ministry will have to ensure the quality of construction.
“We must have better monitoring and keep an eye on the quality of work. This will depend on the government’s ability to control,” said MP Serpa.
Resident Mariano Alves urged the MOPTC to look into the whole process in relation to this project.
“Look at the design, BOQ and the equipment and ensure everything is based on the legal processes we have,” he said.
