The Dili District Court has handed a warning to a man found guilty of domestic violence.

The Public Ministry alleged that on June 15 last year the defendant, known in court as TC, told the victim LC not to touch the phone as he suspected she was having an affair.
LC did not obey and TC threw a plastic chair at her back.
Judge Duarte Tilman called on TC to speak in his defense.
TC admitted to the court that he hit the victim because she refused to listen to him.
“I don’t like if she holds the phone because when she calls her friends, they will have a long chat,” he said.
LC told the court she refused to give the phone up because she believe the accused planned to sell it.
“It was given to me by my older maternal aunt,” she said.
LC said the couple had been living together since the assault without incident.
The accused was defended by public defense barrister Leonidio Marques and internship lawyer Juvinal Yanes Freitas.
