The animal health center in the Fatumean administrative post in Covalima municipality has no veterinary medicine to treat animals.

MP Agustino Lay questioned why the center still had no medication when National Parliament approved the budget for purchasing the medication earlier this year.
“Some of the buffaloes die because they have no treatment, he told parliament.
The center was established to vaccinate and treat animals.
He therefore urged the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to improve coordination between the heads of the various departments in order to share information and prevent these things occurring in the future.
“If you are going to put health personnel there, you must guarantee the function of the centre,” he said.
Meanwhile, head of the department of animal medication control Onofre Costa Henrique acknowledged that the center still lacked medication supplies.
“The medicines that we distribute to our colleagues in the field are sometimes not sufficient, that is the reality that we face,” he said.
This year the government allocated $99,000 for the purchase of medicine, but Henrique said the funds were insufficient.
He said the medication was expensive and the funds provided were not enough as the budget was also used to purchase equipment.
