The Secretary of State of SEFOPE, Rogério Araújo Mendonça, said this support is being provided through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Government, being implemented by CDU.

He added the cooperation aims to assist young Timorese workers in securing jobs abroad, as many workers currently employed in Australia struggle with English language proficiency.

"We are collaborating with Australia, through Charles Darwin University (CDU), to support training for Timorese workers before they begin working in Australia," he said.

SE SEFOPE Mendonça added that this initiative will also benefit trainers from accredited training centres in Timor-Leste, with the first phase providing opportunities to 38 trainers over a three-month period.

"We assure that we are preparing a highly qualified training program. This training, managed by Charles Darwin University (CDU), will be conducted in Timor-Leste in the Tasi-Tolu area. The total budget allocated for this initiative is approximately $2.1 million," he explained.

Meanwhile, Michael Hamilton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of TAFE at the university said CDU would facilitate English language training for Timorese workers as part of this partnership.

"The training is designed to enhance the English language skills of workers, enabling them to communicate effectively when they start working in Australia," he said.

He also expressed gratitude to SEFOPE for placing their trust with CDU to provide this support and help Timorese youth develop their English language skills.
