Skin diseases including scabies and skin fungal infections registered high after upper tract respiratory disease (ISPA) at the Becora Health Centre, in Dili.

She said most cases are related to personal hygiene so apart from providing treatment they also provide health education to communities about how they can prevent skin diseases.
"We run out of skin cream but we ask supplies from other health posts to give to patients,” she said.
Meanwhile, skin specialist, doctor Odete Viegas said scabies is an infectious skin disease caused by a parasite.
She said the symptoms of the disease include itching in sensitive areas such as the armpits, legs and hands that get very itchy at night.
"Scabies is a big problem especially in rural areas because of poor hygiene," she said.
She added that simple skin diseases can be treated and cured but for it not to reoccur patients need to improve their personal hygiene.
She said the most common types of skin disease in Timor-Leste include scabies, skin fungal disease and skin allergies.
