Program Manager Jose Ximenes from Strengthen Women's Economy Alola Foundation (FA )said almost half of the Timorese women have contributed to fix the economic growth within the country, in particular in the family.
He said so far they have provided technical support and do monitoring to 30 handicraft and tais weaving producer groups, in particular they provide training to increase quality products to compete in the National and International market.
"We motivate the women through creating a market and through this market they are willing to produce original products, in particular the use of natural color to make tais," he said in his office, Mascarenhas, Dili.
He said it takes time when using traditional and natural color, and this is sold in the market.
He said most people prefer to buy original products, especially the foreigners.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator from the Asia Pacific Support Collective Timor-Leste organization, Laura Abrantes said they are also working with 45 producers groups in the municipalities.
She said the groups do horticulture activities (plant various vegetables), make sweet biscuits balls and handcrafts by using the coconut husk, along with making different types of food items.
"We should learn more about the economic situation and the consumer’s situation so we can offer products anytime and guarantee sustainability," she said.
She added money earned can support the family economy, take the family away from poverty, and combat malnutrition across the country.
