The Ministry of Education began distribution of rice to schools through the implementation of the School Feeding Program.

Ministry of Education began distribution of rice to schools through the implementation of the School Feeding Program.

The National Director of School Social Action, Belchior Maria Almeida said during the last two and half months rice has not been distributed to schools across Dili because of low quality.
He said the Ministry had managed to distribute rice to schools, then detected the rice was low of quality therefore they took back the rice from those schools.
"We will distribute the rice to all schools across Dili, at the same time we prepare the transport to distribute rice to the municipalities," he said in Kaikoli, Dili.
He said the Ministry of Education had insufficient transportation, and would ask for support from the Ministry of Finance, to help distribute the rice to schools.
He informed that some of the rice was rotten because it came from overseas and was not local rice.
"Our rice production in the country is not sufficient yet for our program," he affirmed.
Previously the coordinator of Rumbia Filial’s basic school, Abilio Pereira da Conceição said so far the government did not distribute the rice, they used their own budget to buy vegetables and rice for the school-feeding program.
The school-feeding program is seen as the main factor for students and helped to motivate them to come to school.
He said Rumbia Filial basic school has 801 students.
He called on the Ministry to accelerate the process so students do not depend on the schools own budget.
