The numbers of civil cases heard by the courts in Timor-Leste have been increasing annually including related to spousal abandonment and/or divorce, according to organization Women and Children's Legal Aid (AlFela).

AlFela Director Merita Correia said abandonment cases have increased due to the high number of adultery instances by husbands.
